Web Development (Scripting and Programming)

Building your website goes hand in hand with the design process. Both these processes influence each other continuously. What you design or want to design will determine which server technology you will have to use to obtain that functionality. 

Similarly the use of multimedia and animation graphics will determine that you will have to use Flash in the design and building phase.

 

Client scripting

This scripting is done in HTML + Javascript and is interpreted by your web browser. The browser then displays graphics and text in a given way and the web surfer sees the result which if done correctly is a pleasing web design.
Javascript enables the programmer to do several things on the browser. It enables the programmer to create special effects on graphics and text. It could also process information entered by the surfer for submission to your web server.

Over doing graphic and text effects will give the effect that your website is a Christmas tree and could potentially slow down the surfer’s computer to the point where your website serves to annoy the surfer more than it is entertaining him.
Balance is the key here -balance between aesthetics and efficiency.

 

Server scripting

Server side scripting will be essential if you intend on collecting any data on or from your customers. You will need a database on your webserver if you have an online store or even if you simply want to gather email addresses from potential customers. It then implies that if you need to gather data from customers in any form, you will need server side scripting to process and store that information.

PHP + ASP is what we use. We mostly script in PHP, using MySQL as our database technology of choice. This is not cast in stone and we can use whatever you might require -that is if you have any requirements in this department.

This side of the website needs to be sound. Scripted well and thoroughly tested to provide for most eventualities. This is the business end of your site.

 

Database programming

This refers to the design and building of a database to store all the information you might require. If your site does not collect data in any form and stores it, a database is not applicable to your website design. If it stores any data you will need a database.

MySQL + SQL (also known as structured query language) is what we mostly use. A well designed database and sql structure will serve you well. It will collect all kinds of information on your customers, making their browsing experience with your website an absolute pleasure. It will also inform you on what they are interested in more than others and assist you in many ways- enabling you to expand and grow.

 

Multimedia

Multimedia programming and design refers to sound, graphics and animation programming. JavaScript + Flash + ActionScript is the languages of choice here. 

It all depends on what you require your site to do. If animation and sound is the thing you are interested in then this will apply to you.
